2014 VMAs Best And Worst Dressed
MTV’s Video Music Awards, or as they are more commonly called, the VMAs, were this past weekend in Inglewood, California. This particular awards show celebrates and rewards some of the music and film industry favorites.
Since the VMAs are more of a fun awards show and aren’t as fancy and prestigious as an awards show like the Oscars or Academy Awards, the outfits people wear often mirror that. The style at the VMAs is much more laidback than other awards shows and you’ll often see the stars rocking mini-skirts, short dresses and sometimes even jeans.
That being said, stars aren’t always looking their best at the VMAs. Here’s a list of this year’s MTV Video Music Awards best and worst dressed.
The Best
The Kardashian-Jenner sisters
Kim, Kendal and Kylie arrived at this year’s VMAs all looking absolutely stunning. Kim’s Balmain mini dress turned a lot of heads with the insane amount of cleavage it showed off, but heads turned just as much for the youngest member of the Kardashian-Jenner family.
Kylie may not have Kim’s well-known curves, but that didn’t make her look any less sexy. She showed up at this year’s VMAs wearing an all-black wrap style dress with a slit basically up to her hip. Given the conservative top of the dress, the deep slit was super sexy, not trashy.
Kendall followed suit and rounded out the family’s gorgeous outfits in a black top and matching pants. Her look wasn’t as daring as her two sisters, but it was just as sexy and sophisticated. Her black mesh top with a bralette kept the look fun and chic, rather than just boring.
Demi Lovato
Some might disagree with this one, but Demi Lovato’s all red dress looked stunning on her. It was the perfect combination of sexy and tasteful. The dress showed off a lot of cleavage and a lot of leg, but somehow didn’t look trashy. The long sleeves on top made for a good balance.
Beyoncé
Queen Bey looked gorgeous as always. At this year’s VMAs she chose an all-black lace gown designed by Nicolas Jebran. Not only was it lacy, but it had some sequins as well and allowed for a bit of skin to show. She looked pretty as well as sexy and lived up to her glamorous reputation.
Iggy Azalea
Newcomer on the scene Iggy Azalea killed it at this year’s VMAs. She showed up in a metallic Versace gown and looked like an absolute superstar.
When you hear Iggy’s name, her killer body and curves are one of the first things you think of, so it should come as no surprise to you that the gown she was wearing was a curve hugging number that showcased her curvaceous bod.
The Worst
Miley Cyrus
It’s hard to forget Miley’s last VMA performance … foam finger and all, so I don’t think anyone knew what to expect from her this year. While she did tone her appearance down a lot since last year, it didn’t work for her. Her black bandeau top and matching pants just looked like a garbage bag instead of a stylish ensemble.
Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift got one thing right in her VMA outfit: rompers are hot right now. Her all blue romper had potential. The color worked for her, the style is trendy and the material was fun.
Unfortunately all of this was not enough to land her on the best dressed list because the outfit has one fatal flaw: the length. Taylor’s jumpsuit was so short that it basically looked like a bathing suit, not a romper.
The 5-foot-10 singer has legs for days, so it makes sense to want to show them off, but this jumpsuit showed them off a little too much.
Ariana Grande
This Nickelodeon star turned singer looked pretty awful in her black leather mini-dress and thigh high boots. The getup looked more like a cheap, slutty Halloween costume that you see on college girls across the country than anything else.
Charli XCX
Another star who jumped on the jumpsuit bandwagon and failed miserably was Charli XCX. The print of this jumpsuit ruined the look entirely. While animal print is hot right now, this print was costume-like, not chic.
Katy Perry
We all got what Katy Perry was going for, but that doesn’t detract from the fact that, plain and simple, this dress is awful. Britney Spears looked awful when her and Justin Timberlake rocked the matching all-denim outfits, so Katy Perry should have figured she would look terrible too.
Amber Rose
Wiz Khalifa’s wife bared just about everything at this year’s VMAs. Her outfit can’t even be described as a dress because there is so little to it. The beaded and sequined ensemble definitely turned some heads, but not in a good way.
This year’s MTV Video Music Awards have come and passed and left us with some good and bad fashion statements. We saw some gorgeous, chic outfits as well as some horrendous ones and this list of the VMAs best and worst dressed sums it all up.
